Surf Academy is a Collective of Women Surfers committed to bringing people closer to nature through the act of riding waves. Marion Clark, Jamie Shindle, and Maddie Miller are protoge’ of Mary Setterholm, US Surfing Champion and Hermosa Beach Walk of Fame Honoree. Mary founded Surf Academy in 2000 and pledged to pass on her stoke when the next generation was ready: That time is NOW! After 10 years of excellence in the water, sharing her stoke with thousands of would-be surfers, Mary has moved on to earn a Masters Degree from Harvard University.

We believe that a surf lesson with us is a valuable investment of your money and your time! What you learn with The Collective is going to SAVE you time and struggle in the water. We remain committed to providing the local community with enthusiastic and professional surf instructors who teach and coach surfing for women, men, teenagers, and children of all ages.

We live to continue the legacy brought forth by Mary Setterholm. Mahalo for paving the way!

Surf Academy operates exclusive Surf Camps, Group Surf Lessons, and Private Surf Lessons in partnership with the Cities of Santa Monica and Huntington Beach.

Los Angeles County Beaches in Manhattan Beach provide additional locations for Corporate Surf Parties solely run by Surf Academy.

How to Signup For Surf Lessons:

1. Join our surfer community.
2. Visit our site and decide what kind of lesson you want.
3. Select the lesson(s) you want to register for.
4. Complete the signup process and pay for your lessons.

• You will receive a confirmation when completed.
• If you are buying a series of lessons, you can reserve them all at once, or reserve one now and the rest later.
• To reschedule a confirmed lesson please call 424-903-9500 or email info@surfacademy.com, at least 24 hours in advance.

Nate Carl and Freedom Riding!

Nate and his team are our favorite photographers when we visit Oahu. They are the “official” photographers for Surf Academy Collective when we take our SurfSTARs on the Hawaiian Surfaris! We also love Nate and his team for how they honor The Surferʼs Code: I Pass On My Stoke to Non-Surfers. Freedom Riding supports AccesSurf, a non-profit that hosts one-day surf events twice a month at White Plains Beach and in Waikiki. Nateʼs photography helps AccesSurf get the word out, and he was instrumental in getting involved with them over Spring Break. Our SurfSTARS devoted an entire day of their Hawaiian Surfari, volunteering their time to assist physically disabled surfers. Afterward, they were so enthused, "This has been the BEST DAY EVER!" No small proclamation out of the mouths of teenagers!
